This Week’s Recruiting Round-Up
A week ago, on February 8th, St. Andrew’s visited Brimmer & May for a regular season Class AA game.
In the 8 days since, Reeves and Swider have been linked in a series of recruiting news.
Both Syracuse head-coach-in-waiting Mike Hopkins and Villanova head coach Jay Wright were in attendance and the Orange were the first to offer both products later that night.
A day later, Villanova followed suit and offered both Reeves and Swider.
Two days later, on Saturday, they coincidentally both found themselves at the Dunkin Donuts Center to watch Providence knock off nationally ranked Butler in Rhode Island native Andrew Chrabascz’s final return to his home state.
It was Swider’s second unofficial visit to Providence in as many weeks after he watched the Friars play host to Villanova on February 1st.
Reeves added another offer before the week was done after speaking with Northwestern head coach Chris Collins on Saturday morning.
Swider and Reeves weren’t the only 2018 products to pick-up major offers this week as Cushing Academy guard David Duke saw his stock continue to rise at a rapid rate.
Duke, who landed a Florida offer two weeks ago, saw assistants from both Villanova and Kansas attend his game on the 8th. The Jayhawks offered before the night was over, officially taking Duke’s recruitment to the next level. Yesterday, it was UConn head coach Kevin Ollie who was in the stands and he too extended a scholarship offer before the day was done.
Also on Wednesday, Brewster Academy forward Sidney Wilson reeled in a Providence offer just a week after Florida became the latest high-major program to offer him.
Here’s a look at some of the other recruiting headlines from the last week:
• Northfield Mount Hermon took a team trip to North Carolina, seeing a variety of campuses including Wake Forest, Elon, North Carolina, and Davidson. Elon offered junior forward Chuck Hannah following a campus tour;
• Lowell High School junior guard Alex Rivera picked up a scholarship offer of his own last week as Merrimack head coach Joe Gallo became the first to offer a full ride;
• Cheshire Academy post-graduate point guard Rich Kelly landed his first division I offer from Marist, head coach Kevin Kehoe announced via twitter. Kelly had already racked up multiple division II offers in recent months.
