Undersized Guard Looking to Cap Huge Career

September 2nd, 2009
New England Recruiting Report

It doesn’t take a big man to put up big numbers and Brimmer & May’s Derek Retos is walking proof of that.

Over the course of a high school career there are few players who can boast the following individual statistics: 1,400+ career points, 270+ made three-point field goals; 360+ career assists; a free throw percentage of over 90%; and a career three-point shooting percentage just over 48%.

Even fewer can boast the following team career stats: participation in four NEPSAC tournaments; a NEPSAC title; and more than 80 high school games won.

The young man who has this resume is Derek Retos, the dynamic 5’10” combo guard from the Brimmer and May School. The most amazing thing about these statistics is that Retos has one more year to add to these astronomical figures.

The rising senior at Brimmer has been widely know as one of the best shooters in New England for several years and has now blossomed into a real complete player.

“Derek has very few holes in his game. He can really handle the ball, he’s a great passer, and he can make a shot from anywhere inside the gym,” states his Brimmer and May head coach Greg Kristof.

Retos is currently getting interest from a wide variety of colleges from the Patriot League, Ivy League, Northeast-10, NESCAC, and UAA.

“I love to play and want to find a place that’s going to be a great fit academically and athletically. I’ve received a lot of interest, but I really want to make sure I find the right place before committing,” says Retos.

There is no doubt that Retos will be a great addition to some lucky college basketball program…where he may even have the chance to break some more scoring records.
