Rivard Makes Canadian National Team

Northfield Mount Hermon’s Laurent Rivard was recently selected to participate on Canada’s 19-and-under national basketball team competing in the FIBA World Championships this summer.

 

Northfield Mount Hermon’s rising senior shooting-guard Laurent Rivard has been named to Canada’s U19 national team. 

Rivard returned home to Canada in early May for a four day try-out which ultimately resulted in his selection to the team.  Findlay College Prep’s Tristan Thompson, who is already committed to Texas, was also named to the squad. 

Team Camp is set to begin on June 1st in Toronto in preparation for the FIBA U19 World Championships to be held July 2nd – 12th in New Zealand.  Canada will also be playing in a warm-up tournament in Paris held late in the month of June where they will be joined by national teams from the United States, Australia, and Lithuania among others. 

“I think this will a tremendous experience for Laurent,” said NMH coach John Carroll.  “Everyone at NMH couldn’t be more proud to have Laurent represent the school at the World Championships.”

USA Basketball has invited 17 players to attend their U19 National Team Trials, to be held June 16-18 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.  12 of those 17 players will be selected to make up USA’s U19 team.  Invited players include:  Kemba Walker, UConn; Al-Farouq Aminu, Wake Forest; Dominic Cheek, Villanova; Drew Gordon, UCLA; Kenny Boynton, Florida; Darryl Bryant, West Virginia; DeAngelo Casta, Washington State; Seth Curry, Duke; Gordon Hayward, Butler; Darius Miller, Kentucky; Arnett Moultrie, UTEP; Ralph Sampson III, Minnesota; John Shurna, Northwestern; Tyshawn Taylor, Kansas; Howard Thompkins, Georgia; Klay Thompson, Washington State; and Terrico White, Mississipii.
