Darryl Cato-Bishop has thrived on both the football field and the basketball court during his career at Lawrence Academy.  After making his college decision on Monday, it appears as if he will have the opportunity to continue to do both for the next four years.

For years Darryl Cato-Bishop has been told that he would eventually have to choose between his two great loves…football and basketball.  While he was able to do both, and do both well, during his high school career, the expectation is that he wouldn’t be able to maintain the same levels of success at the college level, never mind find coaches who wouldn’t mind sharing him with another sport.

He knew the decision wouldn’t be easy as he had deep roots in both sports.  Basketball is the game he has played all of his life, while the family tradition is in football, as his father was the first African-American to earn a football scholarship at the University of Kentucky before going on to play in the NFL.

But as it turns out, Cato-Bishop might not have to make his decision after all.  On Monday, he made a commitment to North Carolina State University, where he will play both football and basketball according to one of his coaches at Lawrence Academy.

Although Cato-Bishop’s scholarship comes courtesy of the University’s football program, he is expected to be a contributor for the basketball program as well.

The Wolverines are getting a young man who is one of New England’s most widely respected student-athletes.  In both sports, players and coaches alike have to respect the intensity with which he competes and his sheer desire to win.  Combine that with undeniable ability in both games and Cato-Bishop is sure to make immediate contributions upon arriving at N.C. State and competing in the ACC.
