Rashad Wright and Melsahn Basabe headlined a list of local talents who shined at Five Star’s top camp of the summer.

Five Star Basketball Camp held its always competitive final session of the summer last week in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.  As in year’s past the camp featured many of the top players in the northeast with the likes of Jayvaughn Pinkston, Lamont Jones, Durand Scott, Maalik Wayns, and Wally Judge all in action.

South Kent’s Rashad Wright turned in one of the week’s best performances, earning the play-off MVP award and being named to the Orange and White game (the all-star game in the NBA division).

Wright’s dominance is not surprising to anyone who was at the Elite 75 Showcase a few weeks ago where he showed his always potent shot blocking ability along with an increased offensive repertoire with his back to the basket.  Perhaps most importantly, he was being assertive and playing with passion on both ends of the floor.

Also being named to the Orange and White game was St. Mark’s junior forward Melsahn Basabe.  This was simply the latest in a long line of strong performances this summer as Basabe has been earning rave reviews at virtually every stop.

Another New England product who shined at the camp was 6’0” junior guard Janif Greene from Manchester, New Hampshire who was named the Most Outstanding Player in the NCAA Division.

Local all-stars in the NCAA division included 5’11” junior guard Andre King from Sabis Charter in Springfield, Massachusetts and 6’1” junior swingman DeVante Vanderpool from New Leadership in Springfield, Massachusetts.
