St. Andrew’s has added another piece to their rebuilding project as one of Rhode Island’s most talented sons will stay at home for the rest of his high school career.

We told you last week that St. Andrew’s had added Mike Carter-Williams and Youri Dascy to their program for next year.  Now, we have received word that Michael LaPlante will also be heading to St. Andrew’s, where he will repeat his sophomore year.

LaPlante is a super athletic swingman who is currently the top ranked sophomore in Rhode Island.  St. Andrew’s Head Coach Mike Hart has high hopes for his future protégé.

“If he is willing to do the work on the court, in the weight room, and in the classroom, he could be an easy division I player,” said Hart.  “We’ll help him get there.  I’m excited.  I think he fits exactly what we do as a school and as a program.”

While all of these recent additions should help to put St. Andrew’s back in the class B tournament, the team may still be too young to compete with the likes of Tilton, Marianapolis, or Cushing.  However, LaPlante and Carter-Williams now form a backcourt duo that will be wearing the red and white for the next three years.  In other words…it won’t be too long before Hart and St. Andrew’s are making another run.
