On Friday we told you that Gaby Belardo was visiting South Florida this weekend.  Well it was clearly a good visit, as the Notre Dame guard committed while there.

Gaby Belardo has come full circle.  When he arrived at Notre Dame Prep in the fall it was thought that he would be one of the program’s most highly recruited players this year.  But after facing some nagging injuries and struggling to find a role in Notre Dame’s system, his season didn’t pan out the way most had expected.

To his credit he continued to persevere and finally got the opportunity to shine when playing at the Kingwood Classic in Houston during the first week of the April Live period.  By all reports, Belardo blew up at the event as his stock immediately went through the roof.

South Florida was quick to pursue the talented guard and invite him down to their campus for an official visit.  This weekend that visit took place, as did Belardo’s commitment to join the Big East program.

“His patience paid off,” said Notre Dame Prep Head Coach Ryan Hurd.  “South Florida is getting a great kid and a great scorer.”

Belardo will be returning to the sunshine state after having previously attended Montverde Academy where he was part of their terrific 2006-2007 season.

Belardo is a versatile player who can fill any of the three perimeter positions.  He is a good catch a shoot player, a willing distributor, and very effective in drive and kick action.

He becomes the third players to sign with the Bulls this spring joining 6’0” point guard Dwan McMillan from St. Benedict’s Prep in New Jersey and 6’8” 290 pound big man Eugene Teague Living Faith Christian Academy in New Jersey.  6’7” forward Eladio Espinosa from Hargrave Military Academy signed in the fall.
