Howes Earns Scholarship

New England Recruiting Report

Lawrence Academy and Boston Warriors guard Kyle Howes made a verbal commitment to Merrimack on Wednesday, accepting a full athletic scholarship to play at the Northeast-10 school.

Howes, who has starred on both the hardwood and the gridiron for Lawrence Academy, brings that same hard-nosed approach with him to the court.  This summer, he led the Warriors in scoring as they traveled to the BasketBull Summer Championships, AAU Super Showcase, and AAU Nationals.

“Kyle will be a success at the next level because he loves basketball and wants to be successful,” said Warriors head coach Cory McCarthy. “The college coaches know Kyle can score, but this summer not only was he one of our leading scorers, but he did the little things to help us win big games like rebounding versus bigger opponents and diving on a loose balls,”

There was one game in particular, during the highly competitive Gold Super Showcase, where Howes rose to the occasion to help deliver the win.

“We had a slow start to the Gold Super Showcase and needed a win badly,” McCarthy recalled.  “”Kyle stepped up, led by example, and showed his teammates the effort it takes to get physical and play high level defense to get a big win over Grassroots Indiana.”

Howes is a versatile guard who brings toughness, perimeter defense, and the ability to score in bunches.

He is the first player to commit from a very talented Warriors’ junior class which also includes  Nick Tarantino (BB&N), Shane Farley & Christian Mornewick (Burlington), Duby Maduegbunam (KUA), Asante Sandiford, Shaquan Murray & Fred Rivers (New Mission), Kameron Nobles (Governors Academy), Joe Carty (St. Andrews), Brian Mukasa (Sharon), Blaine Taylor (Concord-Carisle), Jack Winston (Needham) and Malique McLaren (Winchendon).
