Salisbury Guard Decides

Brandon Hedley makes commitment following championship season.

Salisbury’s post-graduate shooting guard Brandon Hedley has committed to attend Susquehanna University, where he will play for Coach Frank Marcinek’s Crusaders.  The 5’10” shooting guard turned down offers from several Division II schools before choosing the Selinsgrove, PA school.

Hedley came to Salisbury for a post-graduate year after starring at Blake High School, where he and current Crimson Knight Ryan Frazier led the Bengals to the 2010 Maryland state finals.  This year, the two combined in the backcourt to lead Salisbury to the first NEPSAC Class A championship in school history.  Hedley averaged 10 points and 3.1 assists for Salisbury while earning All-New England honorable mention honors.

“I like what Coach Marcinek expects from me and I’ll have the opportunity to play as a freshman.  During the recruiting process, Coach Ruskin always told me to dance with the one who wants to dance with you and, in the end, it was Susquehanna.”  Hedley, an All-Montgomery County selection in high school, will join former Blake teammate Matt McGugan, who recently completed his first year as a Crusader.

“Coming to Salisbury was a great experience.  I learned how to budget my time and I met a lot of new people,” said Hedley.  “Winning the championship this year was the best.  I had a chance to play again with Ryan and the coaches were great.  Most importantly, I learned to stop making excuses for myself, both on and off the court.”

In addition to Hedley, Salisbury’s other three seniors -- Frazier (Bucknell - basketball), Myles Jones (Duke – lacrosse), and Oliver Powers (Radford – baseball) -- will also be continuing their athletic careers in college.
