McGary Taking Visits
September 8th, 2011
New England Recruiting Report
Brewster big man taking in Duke and North Carolina this week.
Mitch McGary was on an official visit to North Carolina on Wednesday and scheduled to travel eight miles up the road for an official visit to Duke later in the week.
The second ranked overall prospect in the most recent ESPNU 100, McGary was expecting to see some familiar faces on both trips.
At North Carolina, he was expected to be joined by his incoming teammate at Brewster Academy, T.J. Warren, a six-foot-seven small forward from Durham, North Carolina. Warren is currently the 23rd ranked player on the ESPNU 100 and is still considering Georgetown, Florida, Kentucky, and North Carolina State in addition to the Tar Heels.
Once McGary arrives at Duke his student host will be none other than New England native Alex Murphy, who recently returned from a very successful foreign tour to Asia with the Blue Devils.
North Carolina and Duke will mark the second and third official visits for McGary after he spent last weekend on Michigan’s campus.
McGary is also still considering Kentucky, Florida, and Maryland.
While NCAA rules only permit five official visits per prospect, the timing of McGary’s visits along with his post-graduate status at Brewster will allow him to see all six campuses officially this fall if he chooses to do so.
Reports earlier this week now indicate that McGary could visit Kentucky officially for Big Blue Madness, which is a big win for John Calipari considering that McGary’s sixth official visit wouldn’t be allowed until after October 15th and their Big Blue Madness is scheduled for October 14th.
McGary is just one highly touted prospect now expected to be on hand for Kentucky midnight madness type celebration. He’ll be joined by Warren, the nation’s top ranked player Shabazz Muhammad, and others including DaJuan Coleman, Archie Woodwin, Alex Poythress, Aaron and Andrew Harrison, and Dakari Johnson.
