Rhode Island native signed with division II school this week.

Nate Stitchell of Coventry (RI) High School and the Rhode Island Hawks committed to, and signed a National Letter of Intent with, Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York this past week.

Mercy is a Division II institution who participates in the East Coast Conference.

Mavericks head coach Adam Parmenter had recruited Stitchell since July of 2009 and followed him during both the high school and AAU seasons before offering him a scholarship in December of 2010. Stitchell ultimately took several visits before committing to Mercy.

Stitchell is a versatile point guard known for his crafty ball-handling, pinpoint passing ability, strong on-the-ball defense, and consistent perimeter shooting.  He joins a veteran laden Mercy squad that will be looking to fill a hole at the point guard position next year.

While at Coventry High School, Stitchell was a four year varsity letter winner and two years starter.  As a senior, he averaged 18.4 PPG, 9.7 APG, and 4.3 SPG while also tallying four triple-doubles en route to his second consecutive All-Division selection.
