Chris Prescott faced a dilemna. Choose between a bottom-tier Big East school that had him a few pegs down its board - or head to an established A-10 program that made him the priority. The 6-foot-1 Northwest Catholic (Conn.) rising senior made his choice.

Chris Prescott was looking for the right fit.

The Northwest Catholic (Conn.) rising senior guard had interest from Big East schools, but he decided to go somewhere that has made him a priority.

Prescott is headed to play for Phil Martelli at St. Joe’s.

``When you have Coach Martelli calling you and saying he talked to his whole staff and he wants you to be the guy, it’s tough to turn that down,” said the 6-foot-1 floor leader. “Not too many coaches do that. It’s usually the assistant coach.”

Prescott is a guy who has made the transformation from a scoring point guard to someone who is able to get his teammates involved and also put up points.

``They’ve been there the longest,” added Connecticut Basketball Club coach J.R. Hargreaves said of Martelli’s program. “When Chris and I talked about it, he wanted to go somewhere that he could be their top priority. That’s what he was for St. Joe’s.”

``I’d rather be at a top A-10 program than at a bottom Big East school,” Prescott said. “A lot of kids get caught up in the conference, but the top teams in the A-10 can beat the bottom teams in the Big East."
