New England Recruiting Report
Both of New England’s Big East schools welcomed important prospects to their respective midnight madness festivities.
Friday night was the official start to the college basketball season and Midnight Madness is always a great opportunity for schools to get their priority recruits on campus and give them a good show.
Both of New England’s local Big East schools took full advantage last night as Providence and UConn both played host to prized recruits.
Six-foot-eight Devon Collier from St. Anthony’s School and New Heights was on PC’s campus this weekend for an official visit. He was joined at Friartown Late Night Madness by a slew of New England prospects that was expected to include: the already committed Ron Giplaye from 2010; Tyler Olander, Naadir Tharpe, Shabazz Napier, and Michael Carter-Williams from 2011; and Ricardo Ledo, Khem Birch, and Domonique Bull from 2012.
UConn’s crowd was highlighted by Andre Drummond while Cory Joseph and Roscoe Smith visited from outside the region. Joseph is a six-foot-three point guard from Findlay College Prep (NV) and Grassroots Canada AAU who is also being courted by Florida, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Texas, and Villanova among others. Smith is a six-foot-seven wing from Oak Hill Academy (VA) and the Baltimore Stars AAU who is considering the Huskies with Georgetown and Duke.
